Reminds me spontaneity of the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Animals” and I wait for a flying pig to arrive in the scene. Another association is from the movie “Koyaanisqatsi”… I feel both show that there is quite a impact from this photograph. Nice work, Bambadi.

I love this in black and white. I’m sure the flowers were stunning in their normal color, but now, they are just magnetic. Really like this.

At first sight I do not agree with the crop. In my opinion there´s to much empty space on the left side.
But then I read the caption. The visualisation of a sad memory has not to be perfect and so I like the picture the way it is.

How very interesting those interwoven patterns are. Great to see also concentric circles… this makes me stay in the whole scene for a long time, exploring the details. Personally, I feel the contrast being a bit too harsh, tho.

I like both very much and for different reasons. While the positive version makes me want to dig in and find the treasure below (yes, I am into treasure hunting right now ), the second, negative one really makes me feel like in a dream, when the elements start flowing towards and right through me. This one has such an ethereal quality. I feel, a very sensitive duo tone coloring could do good to a already great shot. These two are very cool shots!

Both scenes are quite powerful and energetic. I like how the second one reveals mixtures of colors and how the empty white space (negative space) is supporting the lightness, the flow and “fluffy feel”.

Ah, I like the first one much better too.But the direct comparison is a nice lesson of how to make the eyes (brain) of a viewer reach the outside or feel like being kept inside. The first one speaks “freedom”, endless skies! The second one tells me: you stay IN. No way to get past that cross.

I am not sure about the type of plant. They are small plants (bushes) almost grass-like that grow almost anywhere. The brightness or darkness of the leaves are not natural, I have inverted and desaturated them.

Visually, this photo gives me some of the tree characteristics that I like. The thick strong stem, the chaotic innumerable branches with wide span and coverage, the empty area around the tree which emphasizes its uniqueness and greatness…

I see what you mean. Having an “ultimate tree photo” which catches most or all of tangible or intangible qualities of “trees” seems like a very challenging task.

I am looking forward to see your visual interpretation of “trees”. I am sure I will be inspired by them…

Yes, they are really fractals and in some sense look similar to mandelbrot sets. About the upper right (and probably the lower right) I agree with you, but smaller crops miss some interesting fractal parts from other parts of the image.

Those pictures remind me very much of “zn+1 = zn2 + c” … the mandelbrot formula. Self-similarity in various scales. This is a ver nice shot. The positive version reminds me of the fractals directly, the negative version reminds me of blood vessels. And again: the similarity between tree branches and blood vessel branches is stunning…

I only wish, the upper right corner wouldn’t be empty. It provides a “exit hole” for my eyes…

bambadi, I understand your feelings towards trees very well. To me, trees have, beside many points you brought up, wisdom. It’s metaphorical, I know. I can’t scientifically argue as to why this is so. But I don’t care anway. Trees are living creatures and sometimes they have seen centuries… that makes them so special to me. Maybe they are close to what we think of grand parents?

Why I asked those question: what of those qualities do you find somehow perceivable in your photograph? I have a long history of photographing trees. I’ve approached them in so many ways and each time, I felt like I captured one or two aspects, but seldom more. I am still trying for this “ultimate, condensed all-included” tree picture… and the more I do, the more I am convinced, this is impossible.

I will go to my archive and publish a blog entry with some of my tree shots that I like best. Maybe we can inspire us that way. Thanks for your shots and comments.

Roland, trees fascinate me, especially huge trees. They inspire me, because compared to me, they are “huge”, “lively”, “strong”, almost “eternal”, “peaceful”, “giving”, full of “chaotic patterns” and yet “extremely ordered” complex structures which most of time “die while standing”.

Can you imagine a person like that? lively, strong, spontaneous, peaceful, giving, complex and standing until the moment of death?

Whenever I feel desperate, sad, disappointed, down, dissatisfied, negative, … I look at trees, specially big ones such as the one in this photo. If I can, I go near them, stay near them, touch them… and then I immediately feel better, feel positive. As if they support me and give some of their intrinsic strength to me.

This photo may not be a very specific photo, but because it is demonstrating a “real” tree, I feel better just by looking at it. Please also look at two other photos that I just published. They are also trees, but from another angle.

Oh yes, this feels metaphorically strong. There is serenity, contemplation and simplicity in this shot. All together, they produce a scene that isn’t crying out loud. So, many people will miss the essence. But just as the wooden seat signals: sit down, stay, breath and look… and it will reveal the deeper quality. Love it.

I do like the way you have presented this particular issue plus it does indeed present us a lot of fodder for thought. However, because of everything that I have witnessed, I just simply wish as the feedback pile on that men and women continue to be on point and in no way embark on a soap box regarding some other news du jour. I do like the lower part of the shot, where the leaves form such a interesting “dance”. The tree trunk isn’t helping me much, but I understand why it has to be there. I did try differents crops and they all change the scene, but I am not sure it does improve them. So I just enjoy it as you provided it here.
